UN climate negotiations in Lima, Peru -COP20

The 20th session of the Conference of the Parties and the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol is taking place from 1 to 12 December. COP 20/CMP 10 is being hosted by the Government of Peru, in Lima, Peru.

The Green Belt Team is at the UN climate negotiations in Lima, Peru - for the COP20. A key task for the COP is to review the national communications and emission inventories submitted by Parties. Based on this information, the COP assesses the effects of the measures taken by Parties and the progress made in achieving the ultimate objective of the Convention.

COP20 in Lima is the foremost, principal opportunity for global nations to negotiate and shape the contribution they will give to vastly reduce their carbon emissions, before a definitive commitment in Paris. There is a Call to Action asking organizations, groups, networks or movements to join the call and support communities in resistance who warn us of these mechanisms' various dangers' - which will be pushed with the aim to formally including them in a next international climate agreement during COP21 in Paris in 2015.
