Visit GBM

Green Belt Safaris (GBS)

Green Belt Safaris (GBS) offers an alternative Kenyan Safari for our guests. You will be taken through a cultural and conservation journey to meet the Green Belt Movement (GBM) communities and learn about their lives and wealth of experience in rural Kenya.

GBS provides an income for the Green Belt Movement communities involved and helps support the work of the Organization.

Green Belt Safari Options

Depending on your needs, GBS will customise the safaris to include a variety of features and experiences. Guests taking part in the safaris are initially accommodated at our Langata Learning Centre on the outskirts of Nairobi where the experience begins. Further details about Langata Learning centre can be read here.

The Green Belt Movement Eco-experience
This is our flagship GBS. Guests have the opportunity to experience our work while enjoying the rich culture of the communities we work with, and history of the Green Belt Movement.

Green Belt Movement’s Educational Safaris
An Educational Safari is ideal for student groups providing a structured experiential programme that encompasses talks and visits to sites of historical environmental significance. While it is ideal at 7-14 days, the programme can be modified and costed to meet the student's needs.

Green Belt Movement At a Glance
"At a Glance" is ideal for friends and supporters of GBM who want to familiarise themselves with GBM activities in the field but have limited time available. Often short and focused, this programme facilitates your visit in close collaboration with key staffs involved in programme implementation. An "At a Glance" GBS is usually 1-2 days long with an overnight stay with the community (or in a hotel if preferred, at the guest's cost).

Green Belt Movement’s Plant for Kenya
GBM has been scaling up our tree planting activities in forests around targeted watershed areas. This is a special opportunity for our supporters locally and from around the world to get insight into GBM's work.  "Plant for Kenya" packages are planned around the planting season (rains). It focuses on tree planting but also facilitates inter-cultural exchange through community home stays. A Plant for Kenya trip would typically lasts for 3-5 days.
