  • The Green Belt Movement and the People's Climate March; Sunday, September 21st, 11:30 AM EST
  • The Green Belt Movement US and Kenya Board Chairs attending the UN Climate Summit
  • The Green Belt Movement featured in Al Gore's "24 Hours of Climate Reality"

NYC Climate Convergence Teach-In: The Green Belt Movement has organized a screening and discussion as part of the Climate Convergence, to kick off Climate Week NYC

The Climate Convergence is an alternative "people's" summit leading up to the United Nations Climate Summit. Though the Convergence is happening in New York, several events and movements are taking place around the globe.

    GBM's Teach-In is entitled:
Wangari Maathai: The Green Belt Movement's Environmental Legacy and Future.

We will be screening Taking Root: the Vision of Wangari Maathai followed by a discussion with co-director Lisa Merton, GBMI-US board chair Mia MacDonald, and board member Ochoro Otunnu, on GBM's achievements both past and present and how GBM has fought, and continues to fight, against climate change.

As world leaders come to NYC for the UN Climate Summit, the march intends to take a stand to bend the course of history by demanding a world safe from the ravages of climate change.
