The United Nations Climate Summit

The United Nations Climate Summit is taking place on September 23rd in New York City and will be attended by more than 100 heads of state. We at the Green Belt Movement are participating in a number of events calling for urgent action on climate change: if you're in the New York City we encourage you to attend.

The People's Climate March will be the largest climate march in history. As world leaders come to NYC for the UN Climate Summit, the march intends to take a stand to bend the course of history by demanding a world safe from the ravages of climate change.Info:Sunday, September 21, 11:30 AM ESTMeeting at Columbus Circle, NYCWomen and Gender contingent will meet at 10:30 am on Central Park West between 66th and 72nd streets.This link provides themed contingent meet up locations.In addition, Wanjira Mathai, Kenyan board chair, and Mia MacDonald, US board chair, will be attending the UN Climate Summit. Ms. Mathai will also be attending a high level dialogue on forests on September 22nd. We will let you know what happens at these historic meetings in the next newsletter.Wanjira Mathai will also be attending the Leaders' Forum on Women Leading the Way: Raising Ambition for Climate Action. The event is co-convened by the Mary Robinson Foundation for Climate Justice and UN Women, gathering over 130 women to show their commitment to gender sensitive climate action.
