For the Green Belt Movement which has empowered communities to conserve the environment forover 37 years, ensuring food security at household level is vital to having improved livelihoods, economic empowerment and build resilience against climate change in the rural Kenya.

In  partnership with CA Indosuez Wealth Management  the Project is being implemented in Chania Watershed in Aberdares for communities living and depending on this key forest ecosystem. Through this intervention communities are empowered to grow indigenous food crop organically so as to promote family and watershed health.

The women no longer depend on the local market for their kitchen supplies since their kitchen gardens are a one stop shop. This has been achieved at household level through community empowerment training followed by demonstrations on-farm for the communities to roll out these key activities on their farms.

The Green Belt Movement takes pride in its bottom up approach that ensures community empowerment, environmental conservation, and improved livelihoods.
