Earth Day 2021

April 22, 2021

At the heart of this 51st annual celebration of #EarthDay is optimism, a critically needed sentiment in a world ravaged by both climate change and the global covid-19 pandemic.

In partnership with NCBA Bank, Royal Media service, Junior Achievement, and other #ChangeTheStory campaign partners, we marked this auspicious day at Kibiko Forest, Ngong Hills where we inaugurated the campaign in 2018.

Speaking at the event, GBM led the partners in reaffirming the commitment towards increasing the green footprint across the nation through tree planting and supporting the government’s agenda towards the achievement of the Constitutional target of 10% tree cover.

Climate change and other environmental degradations have broken our natural systems, leading to new and fatal diseases as well as a breakdown of the global economy. But just as climate change and coronavirus painfully remind us of the harm we’ve caused, Restore Our Earth – this year’s theme, reminds us of the opportunities that lay ahead.

We must Restore Our Earth not just because we care about the natural world, but because we live on it. Every one of us needs a healthy Earth to support our jobs, livelihoods, health & survival, and happiness. A healthy planet is not an option — it is a necessity.
