Inauguration of the 2nd Distinguished Chair - Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies

The crowd gives a standing ovation to the new Distinguished Chair

This morning, we had the pleasure of joining the University of Nairobi fraternity in an inauguration ceremony for the second Distinguished Chair of the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies, CAVS(WMI), Professor Kazuhiko Takeuchi.

WMI was initiated in 2009 to institutionalize, immortalize and honor the experiences, values and contributions to humanity of the 2004 Nobel Laureate Professor Wangari Muta Maathai. Professor Maathai was the first Distinguished Chair of WMI and since her demise, the University of Nairobi has now appointed the second Chair.

Prof. Takeuchi giving his speechProf. Takeuchi is a world-renown scientist and former Senior Vice-Rector of the United Nations University as well as a member of several high-level policy and scientific councils in Japan.
