Joint tree planting at the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies

This afternoon, the Green Belt Movement joined staff and students of the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies, CAVS for a tree planting event at the Institute grounds.

In her remarks, the Green Belt Movement Executive Director, Aisha Karanja, acknowledged the Wangari Maathai Institute for honoring and advancing the ideals and works of the 2004 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate, Professor Wangari Maathai.

Also at the event, the University of Nairobi Vice Chancellor, Professor Peter Mbithi, stated that the activity as a blessing and an affirmation that the University of Nairobi strives to respect and protect the environment.

More than 2,300 indigenous tree seedlings were planted.
