The Shoe Project in Kenya

February 14, 2018

It has been a busy week for the Green Belt Movement, Green Cross Sweden (GCS) and Green Cross Japan team as we distribute shoes to students in schools across Nakuru County.

Our partnership with Green Cross Sweden started in 2005 with an aim of promoting sustainable peace and security in the Rift Valley. Over the years, we have partnered in various projects across schools in Nakuru County particularly on providing access to safe drinking water and sanitation by equipping schools and communities with rainwater harvesting systems and providing ecological sanitation facilities.

We are proud to have Green Cross Sweden President Tonia Moya join us in this noble activity as we put smiles on the faces of students and shoes on their feet.

The Shoe Project is a cooperation between the three organizations. The objective is to distribute some 1,000 shoes to the children and youth in Rift Valley, Kenya. The locations are the schools of Kamara, Mau Summit and Mosop, as well as the Youth Sports Center for Peace in Rongai.

The schools chosen are within the region of the former peace initiatives, water projects, where Peace Building Committees are established and peace trees have been planted.
