Wangari Maathai honoured in Mashujaa day fete

Through the Green Belt Movement, the late Professor Wangari Maathaiis remembered for championing environmental conservation in the country.

In his statement marking Mashujaa day yesterday, Nairobi County Governor Dr. Evans Kidero noted “today we remember Professor Wangari Maathai as a towering figure, a fearless social activist and an environmental crusader and first African woman to win the Nobel Peace prize. In recognition of her tireless campaigns for a safe environment, the Nairobi County is privileged and pleased to announce that Forest road will now be Professor Wangari Mathaai road in her honour”.

“Professor Maathai’s unrelenting spirit kept would-be forest land grabbers at bay,” he added.
