10th Anniversary of the Late Nobel Laureate Prof. Wangari Maathai

Yesterday, we celebrated the life and legacy of Wangari Maathai at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The event included speakers, a short showing of the documentary "Taking Root", and a Tree Planting Ceremony unveiling a commemorative plaque for the tree Wangari Maathai planted in 2005 as well as a plaque for the Dogwood tree planted yesterday. The newly planted Dogwood tree stands next to the tree planted by Prof. Maathai in 2005 in the garden on the North Lawn of the United Nations Headquarters.

- Ms. Amina Mohammed, Special Adviser to the Secretary General on the Post 2015 Development Planning
- Mr. Liam Kavanagh, First Deputy Commissioner of Parks, New York
- Ms. Mia MacDonald, Chair, Green Belt Movement International USA
- Mr. Waweru Mathai, Son of Late Prof. Wangari Maathai
- Ms. Wanjira Mathai, Daughter of Late Prof. Wangari Maathai
