The African Union (AU), in recognition of the work of the late Nobel Laureate, designated the 3rd of March, every year, as Wangari Maathai Day to be observed in conjunction with Africa Environmental Day. This year, Green Belt Movement (GBM) in collaboration with the The Wangari Maathai Institute, and the United Nations Environmental Program will mark Wangari Maathai Day together.

On this day, we aim to inspire Kenyan youth to heal the earth through intergenerational collaboration, transformative leadership, technology, traditional practices and experimental learning.

This special event will be marked by entertainment and speeches in remembrance of the late Prof. Maathai.
