A thousand thank you's to our volunteer Yosumo Minato from GBM

                                                                                                    Yosumo Minato 'Maina' (right) presents the 1000 origami paper cranes to GBM's Njogu KahareYosumo Minato, from Osaka Japan, has been a Green Volunteer at Green Belt Movement (GBM) for the last eight months. He was based in the field in the Mt. Kenya watershed where he assisted in tree planting operations, followed up on GBM planted sites, advised tree nursery groups on proper nursery management and assisted in writing field reports.

He was a favorite of the local community and they even gave him a local name ‘Maina’.

On his last day in Kenya, Minato came to GBM’s Head office in Nairobi and presented the staff with a traditional Japanese gift: a thousand origami paper cranes. This traditional gift is believed to bring good luck to the receiver. GBM gave him a hand-crafted rhino sculpture.
