O contributing editor Judith Stone felt honored to sit down and talk with environmentalist Wangari Maathai, the first environmentalist to win the Nobel Peace Prize. “What impressed me most was how multifaceted Wangari is,” says Stone. “She has the sharp mind of a scientist, the warm heart of a philanthropist, and the eloquence of a poet.” Stone lives in New York City and is writing the story of one South African women’s ordeal under apartheid.
